A new year's resolution you should actually be making

In the cold light of day on January 1st, you're not the only one nursing a sore head and wondering why your new year's resolutions are going to be so difficult to keep.

Whatever your 2016 #goals are, it's worth bearing this in mind: a conclusive 1989 study in the journal Addictive Behaviours found that only around half the subjects managed to stick to their most important resolution a month on.

This is because we tend to pick resolutions that are very different from our current habits - to stop smoking, for example, or go vegetarian.

So instead of lofty goals, start small: make your resolution to only eat meat two days a week, rather than cutting it out altogether, and you'll be much more likely to stick to your new habit.
