These are the things teachers want Trump to arm them with instead of guns

Teachers across the United States are responding to Donald Trump’s suggestion that some school staff should be armed with guns with a series of emotional tweets using the hashtag #ArmMeWith.

Many teachers are opposed to the idea of guns in schools as a means of defence against attackers and have instead demanded better school supplies and mental health resources.

“Pencils, paper, technology, books, art supplies, counsellors... Not Guns,” was the wishlist of one teacher.

The trend emerged just a day after Mr Trump spoke with survivors of the tragic shooting which claimed 17 lives at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida last week. .

The President took to his favourite social media platform on Thursday to argue his ideas. He claimed that he never said “give teachers guns” but that that arming 20 per cent of “adept teachers” with military training would mean they can “fire back if a savage sicko came to a school with bad intentions.”

He added: “A ‘gun free’ school is a magnet for bad people.”

But various teaching bodies and individual teachers rejected the idea, gaslighting the #ArmMeWith trend on Instagram.

 

#armmewith the resources and funding needed to help students experiencing mental health issues, NOT guns. Teachers, now (more than ever) is the time to take and stand and say we will not accept another one of our students being lost to another senseless school shooting. We have to strive for MORE. Our students deserve it. Let's be clear: arming teachers with guns is NOT the answer. Teachers need resources and funding to provide important services to students. Along with gun control legislation in this country, I want you to #armmewith what I need to provide a great education for ALL students.

This teacher has “had enough.”

 

I HAVE HAD ENOUGH! Not one more child’s face will flash on my television listed as a life lost. I do not want to llisten to their parents tell us of the life their child had before them, but now instead of making plans for college they are making funeral plans. Not one more teacher will need to walk around their classroom to plan and prepare themselves to be armed with basic classroom supplies that they have purchased themselves. Not one more! I am tried, I am angry and I am telling you there needs to be change! This isn’t a time for sides! It is a time for us to realize there is an issue and it can no longer be avoided.
