Bodycam footage shows US basketball star Sterling Brown being tasered by police

Shocking footage has been released of a Milwaukee Bucks basketball star Sterling Brown being tasered and arrested in January after committing a parking violation.

The NBA player is now suing the Milwaukee police department after the video of the altercation has been released. In a statement issued on Wednesday, Brown said the incident was an 'attempt at police intimidation', and 'shouldn't happen to anyone'.

In the original 30 minute footage posted to YouTube by Milwaukee Police, Brown is confronted by an officer outside a Walgreens for parking across two disabled slots.

The officer claimed that he asked Brown to step back from his vehicle and that the basketball star then 'became very aggressive'.

Brown is then surrounded by four more police officers, who brought him to the ground when he takes too long to remove his hands from his pockets.

One officer then shouts 'Taser, Taser, Taser!' and Brown, who was 22 at the time of the incident, can be heard groaning in pain. He was then jailed briefly, but then released and not charged with anything, reported the Milwaukee Sentinel Journal.

Later in the video, Brown can be heard speaking to someone away from the camera, saying: 'They tasered me for no reason'.

The Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales has now issued an apology for the arrest.

The department conducted an investigation into the incident, which revealed members acted inappropriately and those members were recently disciplined. I am sorry this incident escalated to this level.

The Bucks have also released a damning statement targetting the Milwaukee police department calling the police's actions 'shameful and inexcusable'.

The abuse and intimidation that Sterling experienced at the hands of the Milwaukee Police was shameful and inexcusable. Sterling has our full support.

The incident comes after a spate of incidents in America, where black people have been arrested for partaking in day-to-day activities, such as sitting in Starbucks; napping in a university common room; or having a BBQ.
