Trump Jr retweets video accusing Joe Biden of lying about the president's 'very fine people' comments

On Thursday, the former vice president Joe Biden, announced that he would be running for president in the 2020 US election.

In a scathing speech, Biden attacked Donald Trump for the comments that he made in the aftermath of the violence seen in Charlottesville, Virginia, where white nationalists clashed with protestors, resulting in the death of one woman.

Biden said in the video:

Charlottesville was home to a defining moment for this nation in the last few years.

That's when we heard the words of the president of the United States that stunned the world and shocked the conscience of this nation.

He said, quote: 'there are very fine people on both sides.'

This is a direct quote from a chaotic press conference that Donald Trump gave at Trump Tower on August 15, 2017, two days after the incident in Virginia.

When asked about the protestors that showed up in Charlottesville, Trump said:

Excuse me, excuse me. (inaudible) themselves (inaudible) and you have some very bad people in that group.

But you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides. You had people in that group -- excuse me, excuse me -- I saw the same pictures as you did.

You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from [slave owner and Confederate commander] Robert E. Lee  to another name.

This statement is something of a contradiction, as just moments before Trump had tried to condemn 'neo-Nazis and white nationalists' only to undo it minutes later.

When asking a journalist if a statue of Thomas Jefferson should be removed on the grounds that the former president used to own slaves, he said:

OK. Good. Are we going to take down the statue? Because he was a major slave owner. Now, are we going to take down his statue? So you know what?

It's fine. You're changing history. You're changing culture.

And you had people, and I'm not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally.

But you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists. OK? And the press has treated them absolutely unfairly.

In an attempt to smear Biden's campaign and accuse him of campaigning on the basis of a lie, Donald Trump Jr has retweeted a video from the notorious Twitter account Carpe Donktum, which glosses over Trump's 'very fine people' line and instead replaces it with the line where he condemns the white nationalists, with the creator of the video adding that Biden 'knowingly lied to the American people and stoked racial hatred.'

He also retweeted a post by Trump supporter and author Scott Adams, who claimed that the video 'fixes the inaccuracies in the original.'

The video also features images of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Cory Booker and Jussie Smollet as well as doctoring Biden's word's to make him say 'Make America Great.'

The Carpe Donktum account has become a favourite of the Trump's in recent months as both the president and his son have shared clips from the account which have mocked Joe Biden, Jim Acosta as well as a video which used the song 'Everybody Hurts' by R.E.M.
