A Florida student just shut down a US senator over the NRA

Cameron Kasky, a student who survived the Marjory Stoneman Doughas High School mass shooting, called out Republican Florida Senator Marco Rubio.

During a Town Hall forum attended by students, parents of the victims and faculty members of the high school, the junior senator was put on the spot and forced to field questions about gun control and the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Kasky took the podium and pushed for Rubio to commit to stop receiving donations from the NRA.

After repeatedly asking Rubio if he would stop taking funds from the NRA, and Rubio repeatedly avoiding saying a definitive answer, Rubio eventually says:

The influence of these groups comes not from money. The influence comes from the millions of people that agree with the agenda, the millions of Americans that support the NRA.

The crowd erupted in protest, before being calmed, and Kasky delivered another cutting question.

In the name of 17 people, you cannot ask the NRA to keep their money out of your campaign?

Rubio continued by saying he would “pledge to support any law that will prevent a killer like this from getting a gun”, but refused to commit to rejecting donations from the NRA.

Kasky made a final plea to the NRA:

NRA please keep the money out of Rubio.

People were impressed with the young student's tenacity and willingness to press the junior senator.

And others praised the set up, and encouraged more events where citizens could hold their leaders accountable
