Times columnist Giles Coren is no stranger to controversy, but now he’s being accused of “homophobia” for his latest contribution to the paper.

In a “prediction” for 2020, Coren wrote the following about Guardian columnist Owen Jones, who is gay:

Jones responded on Twitter, suggesting that Coren's words are homophobic.

After Jones made his objections clear, other people also condemned the “prediction” in a similar way.

In response, Coren said that he'd "never" mock someone for being gay and said that his comment wasn't "meant" to be homophobic.

He also insisted that he "didn't know" that Jones is gay.
