John McDonnell broke the fourth wall on The Marr Show so naturally everyone is mocking him

As you're probably aware the Labour party is going through a full blown crisis few small difficulties at the moment.

Shadow chancellor John McDonnell appeared on The Marr Show on Sunday to talk about the upcoming Labour leadership election between Jeremy Corbyn and Owen Smith and the complaint from former shadow cabinet minister Seema Malhotra that one of his aides "broke into" her office.

In a The Thick Of It moment, he asked which camera he should use to stare directly down the lens in an appeal to members of his party to protect it from people who would "destroy it":

Let me just say this to Labour Party supporters, Labour members, members of the Parliamentary Labour Party, we’ve got to stop this now. There is a small group out there that are willing to destroy our party just to remove Jeremy Corbyn, we’ve got to stop them. We’ve got to unite. If you want to come for me and Jeremy Corbyn that’s up to you. But don’t pick on staff who can’t defend themselves.

The intense moment has (of course) already been heartily mocked.

McDonnell also said that it was his hope that hustings over the summer's leadership contest could "heal some of the wounds and bring us together."
