Kristen Bell opens up about her husband's relapse in interview with Ellen DeGeneres

Kristen Bell has opened up about her husband Dax Shepard’s relapse with painkillers and his 16-year journey with sobriety.

Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Bell said she’ll “continue to stand by” her husband because he’s “very, very worth it”.

The conversation came about after Shepard made the revelation of his relapse in an episode of his Armchair Expert podcast last month.

He explained that eight years after quitting alcohol and cocaine, he got into a motorcycle accident at the same time his father got a cancer diagnosis.

He remembered:

I immediately called my sponsor and I said, ‘I’m in a ton of pain and I got to work all day, and we have friends that have Vicodin.’

And he said, ‘Ok, you can take a couple Vicodin to get through the day at work but you have to go to the doctor, and you have to get a prescription and you have to have Kristen [Bell] dole out the prescription’.

Shepard explained that he started taking painkillers, but they were administered by his wife.

Things gradually escalated when he was involved in another accident and he started lying to the people around him as things got “shadier and shadier” as he began purchasing his own pills. He relapsed earlier this year.

Eventually, he opened up to his wife about his struggles and she was completely understanding about it all.

He said in the podcast:

I now feel again like my life’s going to get better. I’m going to feel less sick from it, I’m going to be less sweaty every night.

Speaking to Ellen on Tuesday, Kristen Bell revealed her husband is “actually doing really great” now:

The thing I love most about Dax is that he was able to tell me and tell us and say, ‘We need a different plan’.

One of the main reasons I love him is that he’s also addicted to growth. He’s addicted to evolving.

Bell revealed the couple are going back to therapy and they’re excited for the future.

And people were loving the supportive and caring relationship on display:
