Man held after 'throwing marbles' during PMQs

A man was "dragged" out of the House of Commons public gallery today after apparently throwing marbles against a security screen during prime minister's questions.

In parliament members of the public who watch PMQs sit in a gallery which looks over the floor of the chamber behind glass screens. Several political journalists, who would have been sitting in a nearby raised gallery for the press, tweeted about the commotion as did Labour MP Emily Thornberry who was on the floor of the chamber.

A House of Commons spokesman said: "Following a disturbance in the public gallery during Prime Minister's Questions today, a man was escorted from the gallery by doorkeepers and is currently in Metropolitan Police custody.

"The incident did not disrupt the business of the House and there were no injuries sustained."

i100 has contacted the police for a statement on the incident.

In 2004 a man attempted to throw purple powder at Tony Blair from the public gallery, with campaign group Fathers 4 Justice later taking responsibility for the stunt.
