Mike Read tried to interview Chevy Chase on stage and it went viral for all the wrong reasons

What's the weirdest and most cringe-worthy thing that you can envision happening to a Hollywood legend on stage?

Whatever you could come up with it's unlikely it would be as awkward as what happened to Chevy Chase on Saturday night in London.

The comedy star, best known for his roles in National Lampoon, Caddyshack, Saturday Night Live and Community appeared at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith for an on-stage interview with Mike Read.

The 70-year-old Read is best known for his work as a DJ and TV presenter for the BBC during the 70s and 80s.

Fans reported Read went into full "Alan Partridge mode" and made the event an evening to remember for all the wrong reasons.

Judging by reports from people in attendance, the event was dogged by microphone problems and technical issues.

Yet it appears that Read was vastly unprepared for the interview, insisted on asking intimate and inappropriate questions and even got a guitar out at one point to sing a song.

Reactions to the event soon went viral on Twitter and the Internet couldn't get enough of it.

At one point someone in the crowd shouted out "Mike Read you're a t**t", and it received a round of applause.

The evening is said to have ended after Read was heckled and walked off stage, leading to Chase literally dropping the mic.

The event was organised by Rocco Buonvino a promoter who has previously staged events with other Hollywood A-listers like Al Pacino, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone.

indy100 has contacted both the Eventim Apollo and Buonvino for comment on the event.
