Pirates of the Caribbean actor somehow finds himself in Syria fighting Isis

British actor Michael Enright has given his first interview since leaving Hollywood two months ago to join Kurdish troops fighting Isis in northern Syria, where he says he's ready to die for the cause.

In the interview with Dubai-based channel Al-Aan, conducted in English, Enright is shown in combat gear, brandishing a Kalashnikov. He calls Isis a "stain on humanity" that needs to be wiped out.

The 51-year-old from Manchester, who had a minor role alongside Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, said he was inspired to join the fight against the extremist group after seeing their infamous propaganda videos and learning more about its prosecution of Iraqi's Yazidi people.

I'd never heard of Yazidis before. If you had said 'What's a Yazidi?' I would have said 'something you eat?' I had no idea.

Enright, who has no formal military training, said he chose to join the well-organised Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the fight rather than the Shia Iraqi groups because the Iraqi army was like "the French of the Middle East". "They just give up... they just keep surrendering," he said.

Enright said he's written to friends and family and while he wants to see them again he is prepared for the fact it might not be in this life.

I didn’t come here to run, I came here to fight. And if I die, I die.
