Some people think that the Old Trafford fake bomb scare was a Brexit conspiracy. Yes, really

A Premier League match in Old Trafford between Manchester United and Bournemouth on Sunday was cancelled following the discovery of a 'dummy bomb' accidentally left behind by a private firm that had conducted a security exercise days ago.

The security firm's mistake has been (quite rightly) ridiculed. And while Twitter jokingly boarded the conspiracy theory train:

Many genuine-seeming theories abound - and they are weirdly eurocentric in nature.

Some people questioned the timing of the bomb scare's given the EU referendum vote on 23 June.

Others claimed Boris Johnson did it.

But most blamed the "In" campaign for scaremongering. Because of course.

Only 35 days to go until the referendum...
