Trump criticises Ilhan Omar, forgetting about his own strange 9/11 boast

A resurfaced clip from 2011 shows the President, in typical fashion, boasting about Trump Tower in the aftermath of 9/11.

This week Donald Trump joined fellow GOP members and the New York Post in attacking Ilhan Omar over a speech she made describing how all Muslims had felt the consequences of the 9/11 attacks.

All nuance vanished after a seriously shortened clip went online fuelling allegations that Omar did not consider the attackers to be terrorists.

POTUS pinned a tweet to the top of his feed featuring the video that read "WE WILL NEVER FORGET!", accompanied by a video that wouldn't look out of place on Infowars, inadvertently proving Omar's point that Muslims have suffered as a result of the attacks.

Critics have been quick to point out that not only is the criticism of Omar flawed, it's also dangerous, coming just one week after a man was arrested for making death threats to Omar.

In a barely even surprising twist of events, it turns out Trump made some pretty weird remarks relating to 9/11 - on the day.

In what is possibly the most stunning display of narcissistic logic to come to light so far this year, the President managed to take an international tragedy that took thousands of lives and somehow make it all about himself.

On 11 September 2001, while smoke and rubble still filled the streets, Trump told local news site WWOR:

"I mean, 40 Wall Street actually was the second-tallest building in downtown Manhattan, and it was actually before the World Trade Centre the tallest, and then when they built the World Trade Centre it became known as the second-tallest, and now it's the tallest."

He continued by saying:

"I just spoke to my people, and they said it's the most unbelievable sight, it's probably seven or eight blocks away from the World Trade Centre, and yet Wall Street is littered with two feet of stone and brick and mortar and steel."

Like many of the president's strange boasts, it turned out to be false...by 25 feet to be precise.

According to architectural reports 70 Pine Street actually became the tallest building in the area at 952 feet after the attacks. The Trump Tower at 40 Wall Street only stands at 927 feet, reports the Huffington Post.

Trump previously used false claims about the 9/11 attacks to score political points, telling a rally that he "helped a little bit" as people cleared the rubble and searched for survivors.

Lets also not forget that during his presidential campaign, he also claimed to have seen thousands of Muslims on New Jersey rooftops "cheering as that building was coming down". These claims were meant to support his plan to put mosques under surveillance.

The "disgusting" and "shameful" attacks on Omar were strongly denounced by notable Democrats including Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
