Trump says noise from windmills causes cancer

Donald Trump has been criticised for saying noise from windmills causes cancer.

The American president made the claim with no scientific backing whatsoever during a speech he delivered at the National Republican Congressional Committee dinner.

In a bizarre tangent, he said: “Hillary Clinton wanted to put up wind… wind.”

If you have a windmill anywhere near your house, congratulations your house just went down 75 per cent in value. And they say the noise causes cancer, you tell me that one, OK.

And then he waved his arm around in what he thought looked like a wind turbine.

He added: "The thing makes so much noise, and of course it’s like a graveyard for birds. If you loved birds, you’d never want to walk under a windmill again."

To be clear, windmills do not cause cancer. There are other health problems that are blamed on wind turbines, but cancer is not one of them.

To reiterate: noise does not cause cancer.

Reaction to his speech about windmills aren't favourable to the American president.

It wasn't long before gifs made an appearance.

And a whole lot of humour.

Others pointed out the he confused windmills and wind turbines...

Neither of which cause cancer.

Trumps had a long day, it seems.

And then, to top off what was a monumentally strange speech, he told the room, which was filled with reporters and C-SPAN cameras covering the speech live:

Someone’s gonna leak this whole damn speech to the media.
