A waitress was refused a tip because she 'didn't look normal'.

Taelor Beeck, who has bright pink hair, works at Zombie Burger in Des Moines, Iowa, and is apparently loved by regular customers. Tipping is pretty much absolute in the US.

But last week Taelor collected a receipt to find no token of appreciation. In its place was a message that read: 'Tips are only for normal looking people.'

Stiffed! A waitress at Zombie Burger + Drink Lab says she didn't get a tip because, according to her patron, she isn't...

The patron obviously didn't take kindly to Taelor's appearance which, while unconventional, shouldn't really impact recognition of her service.

The waitress told local media outlet WHO TV Channel 13 News:

At first, I felt really upset, I felt attacked, I almost felt like I was back in middle school all over again, like being bullied. I felt like a burning anger inside of me.

But I didn't act on it because it's not worth it when someone puts hate out there, you know to respond in a hateful way will do no good. I mean I can't pay my bills if people don't tip me. That's how I make a living.

The bill in question was worth $17.26 and Taelor added that tips are vitally important in her industry. She said she relies on the extra cash to make a living.

Since Taelor talked about her experience, hundreds have come out in support. Zombie Burger isn't fine dining, and formal wear isn't exactly expected.

Tammy Danielson asked on Facebook: 'What does appearance have to do with deserving a tip?'

The restaurant group that owns the burger joint has also issued a statement and is standing by its employee.

A spokesperson told WHO TV:

We believe that zombie burger is a place that celebrates individuality

We stand by our staff

We also believe that our customers enjoy zombie burger because it is a wonderfully unique place and that includes the team members.

We are in 100% support of our staff.

And we’re confident that our customers will be as well.

She is an example of a great team member and we are standing by her.
