George Clooney gave his wife Amal, an ethically sourced, 7-carat emerald-cut yellow diamond ring worth over a quarter of a million pounds for their engagement.

Some people have much humbler tastes.

Ariel Desiree McRae, from Tennessee and her then boyfriend, Quinn, decided they wanted to get married.

Neither parties had a lot of disposable income, but they didn’t let that stop them.

In a Facebook post, Desiree explains that the pair went to a Pandora shop to purchase a pair of rings.

He scraped up just enough money to buy me two matching rings from Pandora. Sterling silver and CZ to be exact.

One of the female retail assistants came over to see what they were doing, and made an off-hand comment:

Y'all can you believe that some men get these as engagement rings? How pathetic.

Her husband heard the comment and, according to Ariel, he was “devastated".

Ariel wrote her perspective in the status:

It isn't the ring that matters, it is the love that goes into buying one that is. We bought the rings and left.

Ariel got married in a court house, and she couldn't be happier:

I would have gotten married to this man if it had been a 25 cents gum ball machine ring.

The post has been shared over 50,000 times.

Her post resonated with many people, and Ariel told indy100:

I'm completely humbled and blessed to be experiencing this.

People are messaging me telling me how much I inspire them and it both baffles me and makes me overjoyed.

I am happy to be such a positive influence after such a nasty election season and as the holidays roll around!
