Weight loss inspiration: Bride-to-be loses half her body weight by making a simple change
A newlywed was shocked into losing almost 110lbs after "embarrassing" proposal photos left her in tears.
Haley Smith, 24, from Amarillo, Texas, tipped the scales at 277lbs (19.8stone) when her boyfriend Matt Smith popped the question in July 2015.
However, when looking at photos of the special moment, Haley was horrified by her size and refused to post any of the photos online.
Determined to slim down for her wedding, she took up running and ditched her junk-food diet for fruit and veg.
Now she works out twice a day and has found her bad health - such as excess sweating and joint pains - has improved.
On Saturday, the childhood sweethearts tied the knot and this time Haley felt 'beautiful' in her wedding dress at 168lbs (12stone).
Haley, a post-graduate student in psychology, said:
Haley struggled with her weight as a child, but it was at university that her overeating spiralled out of control.
As an "emotional eater" she would binge on crisps, sweets and carbs.
She added:
Haley's overeating began to affect her health, which in turn affected her social life and her self-confidence.
She said:
Haley's wake-up call was in July 2015 when Mat proposed to her.
She revealed:
Haley started by running three times a week, gradually working up to 5km, until working out become a habit.
Then she increased her routine to five times a week and included strength trainings as well as cardio.
Haley said:
Haley also credited her new husband with her transformation.
She said:
Haley's and Matt's big day went perfectly, and now the couple are honeymooning in New Zealand - something that would have been impossible for Haley 100lbs ago.
