This is what an anonymous Oscar voter thinks of this year's nominees

With security precautions and even a police escort, Academy members's Oscar votes are veiled in secrecy and intrigue until the big day.

Or are they? The Hollywood Reporteronce again sat down with a secret voter who revealed their true feelings about the nominees.

It's a hot contest in 2018 - to name just a few, Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water is leading the pack with 13 nominations, World War II epic Dunkirk scooping eight, and drama Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri managing six.

While the Oscars officially treats each of its nominees to lavish praise, here's what one anonymous male voter of the Academy's producers branch really thinks.

Best Picture

The voter loved outsider, period drama Phantom Thread, but he most gobsmacked by fantasy romance Shape of Water.

He was less of a fan of the the LGBT romance Call me by Your Name - specifically, he found the apparent age difference, which was unspecified, between the couple "wrong".

And what of The Post, a newspaper drama The Independentcalled "rousing"? Well, director "Spielberg couldn't get ot of his own f**king way", apparently.

Likewise, he thinks that "nothing was honest" about one of the frontrunners for Best Picture, black comedy Three Billboards.

Best Actor

This one was easy for the anonymous voter.

He doesn't understand "why everyone's so crazy for Daniel Kaluuya" as a man who discovers a disturbing secret in Get Out.

And he fobbed off the other nominees as largely exciting, but unable to match-up to his big winner: Gary Oldman playing Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour.

All five nominees - apart from Meryl Streep in The Post, a film he didn't like - deserve to win, the voter thinks.

But he settled with backing the star of his favourite film of the year, The Shape of the Water, in Sally Hawkins.
