As one of the most popular wrestling stars and action film heroes in the world, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has built a reputation on appearing like he’s indestructible.
But as he revealed recently on Instagram, the 48-year-old actor/wrestler/businessman has had more than his fair share of injuries during his career.
“Even though I look like a wounded, passed out drunk buffalo, laying face down in prairies – can’t tell ya how grateful I am for these quiet healing/recovery moments,” Johnson wrote on a post featuring an image of him receiving electro-acupuncture treatment.
He then shared a list of some injuries he’s had to overcome over the years…
- 4 knee surgeries
- Torn quadricep off my pelvis
- Torn adductor off my pelvis
- Triple hernia surgery
- Ruptured Achilles’ tendon
- Completely shoulder reconstruction
- 3 low back disc herniations
- 2 low back disc ruptures
The actor added: “It’s the daily reminder that we only have one body and we gotta take care of it…”
The Fast & Furious star also told his huge Instagram following this week that he had tried out cupping, a form of alternative medicine which uses heated cups to create local suction on the skin.
Supporters of the therapy argue that it can be used to treat a wide range of conditions but medical experts have warned there is insufficient scientific evidence of its health benefits.
Johnson told his fans that the treatment “looks more gnarly than it feels” after sharing a picture of his back covered in red circles.
“Always looking for new techniques to keep this 250 million year old dinosaur body balanced and optimal with not only all my past injuries but my daily grinding family/work/training/repeat schedule,” he wrote in a caption for the post.
