How the first ever printed books were used and abused

Naughty doodles, split ink and inscriptions are all revealed in a new exhibition looking at the first ever printed books.

Private Lives of Print from the University of Cambridge Library displays books printed between 1450-1550. The exhibition draws on the university's collection of incunabula, which are books printed before 1501. Some are beautifully preserved, others have been scribbled on and marked:
