The latest season of The Crown has captured the attention of millions – including the royal family.

Mike Tindall, husband of the Queen’s granddaughter Zara Tindall, confessed that he’s currently “catching up” on the Netflix series, though he hasn’t reached the fourth season yet.

On an episode of the podcast, The Good, the Bad and the Rugby, Tindall, who is also a former rugby player, admitted to his viewing habits, saying:

I need to catch up. I actually saw the advert for it and I was like, 'Ooh, I need to catch up.' Because I only got about halfway through season three, so I started watching season three last night and then I'll catch up. But I've seen it all over the place, and on these popular midday TV shows.

I'm quite intrigued to see where they go with it because obviously, it's an era people are fascinated with. It's getting to more things that people know about, isn't it, and have opinions about — so that's where it gets difficult.

He also offered his own suggestion for who should play him in a future season. “I'm looking forward to Jason Statham rocking in,” Tindall said. “Looking cool as ****, with a northern accent."

Despite counting himself as an avid viewer, Tindall reminded others that the show is by no means factual: "It's a drama,” he said. “So it's going to be made to be a bit of a drama."

We might never know what the sovereign herself thinks of the current season’s portrayal of events, including the tumultuous period after Princess Diana was introduced to the family, but we do know she did watch it at one point.

In 2017, it was reported that she watched the first season after Prince Edward encouraged her to do so. The Earl and Countess of Wessex reportedly held screenings of the show at Windsor Castle.
