Fans are sending support to Miley Cyrus after she revealed she's been sober for six months.
In an interview with Variety's The Big Ticket podcast, Cyrus told Marc Malkin:
I’ve been sober sober for the past six months. It’s really hard because especially being young, there’s that stigma of “you’re no fun.” It’s like, honey, you can call me a lot of things, but I know that I’m fun.
The thing that I love about it is waking up 100 per cent, 100 per cent of the time. I don’t want to wake up feeling groggy. I want to wake up feeling ready.
Cyrus stopped drinking and smoking in November when she had vocal chord surgery from "over-use of the vocal chords". She then decided to continue her sobriety, in part because therapy helped her to realise that her family has a history of "addiction and mental health challenges".
My mom was adopted, and I inherited some of the feelings she had, the abandonment feelings and wanting to prove that you’re wanted and valuable. My dad’s parents divorced when he was 3, so my dad raised himself.
Fans are proud of Cyrus for embracing a sober lifestyle.
Fans were also excited to learn that Miley Cyrus is as obsessed with Britney Spears as the rest of us. Reflecting on our her dual loves of Britney and Joan Jett, Cyrus said:
You should’ve seen my face when Britney covered I Love Rock ’n’ Roll in Crossroads. I melted down. That scene was the father, the son and the Holy Spirit all in one room. I actually lost my mind.
Cyrus went sober in 2017, after publicly experimenting with drugs and alcohol. She resumed smoking marijuana the following year, but not while working.
Now Cyrus is "sober sober", which she says is important to help her "polish up my craft".
