Noel Fielding, co-host of The Great British Bake Off on Channel 4, is experiencing a backlash just two episodes in.

The new lineup and move to Channel 4 was originally met with some scepticism, but so far the new series appears to have gone down quite well with fans.

However, there has been considerable criticism levelled at the Mighty Boosh star following a recent tweet and picture of himself with judge Paul Hollywood.

In the past few weeks there have been rumours that Fielding and Hollywood didn't get off to the best start during production of the much loved baking competition.

Unnamed sources told tabloids that the pair weren't 'on the same page', adding that there were a lot of 'tumbleweed moments' during conversations.

Fielding, seemingly in response to said rumours, posted this photo on his Twitter, and wrote:

This should put to rest any rumours that me and blue eyes @PaulHollywood don’t get on :) ha ha ha x

Most people commented to make jokes, or complementing Fielding on his shirt, but a number of people accused Fielding of trivialising gay relationships and sex for a joke.

Some even accused the comedian of 'homophobia'.

Representatives of Mr Fielding said they weren't commenting when approached by indy100.

The Great British Bake Off continues next Tuesday, 12 September - 8pm on Channel 4.
