Robert Pattinson is the gift that keeps on giving. In the past year alone he’s given us the world’s most questionable (and explosive) pasta recipe, to debuting as Batman in a bathrobe while filming in Liverpool this year.

His latest film Tenet was one of the only big budget releases to hit actual, physical cinemas this year. Labelled “thrilling but confusing” by critics this summer, it left some audiences wondering why they’d made the journey in the first place due to its hard to follow plotline and rambling dialogue.

It has now been established that Robert knew just as much as his confused audience worldwide during the shooting of the film, having conceded that he had a bit of trouble even “vaguely understanding” what was going on during filming.

Director Christopher Nolan’s movies are renowned for being complex, but this is next level.

Twitter found the level of frankness endearing - the tweet quoting him on the matter went insanely viral overnight, with over 200,000 likes.

It all stems from Robert candidly sharing his embarrassment about having “the wrong take” on his own character after months of working on the film:

“When you’re doing them, I mean, there were months at a time where I’m like, ‘Am I . . . I actually, honestly, have no idea if I’m even vaguely understanding what’s happening.’ And yeah, I would definitely say that to (co-star) John David. On the last day, I asked him a question about what was happening in a scene, and it was just so profoundly the wrong take on the character. And it was like, ‘Have you been thinking this the entire time?’”

It appears to have been said during promotional work for the film - nice one, Robert.

Musician of the moment Phoebe Bridgers drew even more attention to it after meme-ing her own album with the quote.

Those that came out of theatres this summer with their minds boggled can sleep easy tonight - if it’s own lead actor doesn’t have a clue, how is everybody else supposed to?
