The Single Market, the European Economic Area, the Schengen zone, the common travel area, the customs union, Henry VIII clauses.

Talking about Brexit can feel abstract, legalistic, and intentionally complex.

In September 2017, the financial writer David Osler brought the sometimes confusing debate into terms that the 21st century can understand.

At present Netflix is a bit like the European Union.

  • Lots of European languages.
  • Lots of liberal actor types.
  • A membership club.

Not everyone on Twitter was willing to accept the premise of Osler's analogy.

Others ran with it.
