As fans of JRR Tolkien will attest, one of the best things about reading The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit is the beautiful maps of Middle Earth from the author himself.

If that sounds like something you would say, then you'll love these maps of US cities redrawn in a fantasy style where real-life locations are reimagined as fantasy lands of castles and dragons.

The maps are the work of Stentor Danielson, assistant geography professor at Pennsylvania's Slippery Rock University.

He mainly specialises in maps for Pittsburgh and other US cities but takes special requests and is currently working on a similar map for London.
