Donald Trump said in November that he wasn’t “trying to get top level security clearance” for his children. He called accusations levelled at him "a typically false news story".

Having this clearance for his children would mean that non-political and unelected people would have access to the country’s top security information. So it’s no wonder Trump was quick to deny it.

But it seems this digital pledge has already backfired for Trump.

Yesterday, it emerged that his daughter Ivanka will be workomg in an office in the White House, and will get security clearance.

New York Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman claims that this isn't a spur of the moment decision - explaining that Ivanka’s new office had been held aside for her since Trump took office in January.

That's only two months after he denied the initial rumours.
