Being pregnant puts a woman firmly in the limelight, and conflicting information causes a lot of anxiety: is her baby bump big enough? Should she go on a diet? Is she putting on too much weight? Can she still exercise?
Chontel Duncan, former Miss Universe finalist, now a high-intensity interval trainer, shared a photo on Instagram that recently made the rounds on the internet:
In the photo, she appears to have no baby bump despite being over 20 weeks along. Her friend Natalie Smith, standing next to her, is a mere four weeks ahead.
Each woman carries different and this most certainly doesn't mean one is doing something wrong or not healthy etc. We both have healthy growing babies and we both have had incredible pregnancies so far, feeling amazing and full of energy.
At 37 weeks her stomach has certainly grown, but she still seems very small in comparison to many women.
Despite that, Chontel is adamant about how seriously she takes her health, and told Today :
Once it became clear to me (through my social media posts) how foreign it was to see a pregnancy performed like mine, it did get me thinking, 'Maybe I should continue to document my pregnancy because it seems that we are misled to believe that we are more fragile than we really are.'
We lose focus on one of the most important components (of a healthy pregnancy,) keeping ourselves physically and mentally strong.
Chontel posted a video of herself during a HIIT training session a week ago, and she seems to be in top physical condition despite her pregnancy.
Doctors agree that pregnant women can still engage in high intensity training for much of their pregnancy without putting the mother-to-be or the baby in any harm.
I am SUPER grateful for my pre pregnancy health condition that has allowed my body to absolutely smash this pregnancy & provided me with the ability to keep moving now almost at 37 weeks.
