Frida is the first dog mayor of San Francisco

San Francisco unveiled its new mayor yesterday - a dog called Frida.

Power was handed over to the chihuahua-mix by previous mayor Ed Lee at City Hall in front of a gathering of townspeople and was then saluted by the city's Board of Supervisors.

This is the first time San Francisco has had a dog mayor.

But don't worry, the people of San Francisco haven't gone completely barking mad. The rescue dog was only made mayor for 24 hours and was given the honour as part of a charity fundraiser.

Her owner Nick Clark was victorious in an auction at a gala dinner for the Animal Care and Control shelter.

After her reign finishes, power will be handed back to human mayor Ed Lee...
