Lil Nas X vs Nike
The rapper managed to go viral again this week after he released the video to his new hit single ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name).’ However, he managed to spark controversy by putting his name to a Satanic custom pair of Nike trainers that sported a pentagram and an actual drop of blood. The sports giants were not happy and threatened legal action. Lil Nas X responded with memes.
Lil Nas X pole dancing to hell
Speaking of the song, the video involves a rather eye-catching scene where the rapper literally pole dances from heaven to hell and then gives the devil a lap dance. People quickly turned the pole dance, which does evoke some exotic imagery, into a meme due to its sheers ridiculousness.
Jimmy Fallon and Addison Rae
The US chat show host and influencer sparked controversy earlier this week thanks to a segment on Fallon’s show where Rae performed many viral dance moves made popular on TikTok but failed to credit the creators, many of whom are Black. As a way of skewering the segment people began changing the music to tracks that didn’t exactly fit the dance moves.
Godzilla vs Kong
The new blockbuster sees the two iconic monsters square off in a battle for the ages and yes, the Internet could not resist making memes about their gigantic tussle.
‘White Boy Summer’
Chet Hanks, the son of Hollywood legend Tom Hanks, raised eyebrows last week when he announced that he believed that this summer would indeed be a ‘white boy summer.’ Hanks has since received a lot of pushback on the new trend, which even includes merchandise. The internet is just happy to make memes about it.
The Republican senator from Texas just can’t seem to keep his name out of the news at the moment. He hardly helps himself though. This week he decided to head down to the US-Mexico border in a vague attempt to expose how many illegal immigrants are entering the US. Instead, he just looked like a weirdo hiding in bushes, which is never good.
To the surprise of absolutely no one, a professor discovered that there are 6.5 teaspoons of sugar in each Cadbury’s Creme Egg. The internet’s reaction - not really fussed at all...
The new Captain America
If you've been watching the new Marvel series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier you'll already be aware that there is a new Captain America. John Walker, played by Wyatt Russell, has replaced Steve Rogers as the inspirational hero but Walker is a deliberate anti-hero who is designed to rubs people the wrong way. In turn, the MCU fans have turned Walker into a meme that personifies that one type of person that really manages to annoy everyone they encounter.
It's kinda astonishing that the CEO of Twitter hasn't become a major meme before this but the inevitable happened this week when Jack Dorsey testified before Congress in a misinformation hearing. Given the importance of the hearing, it was that Dorsey decided to conduct his testimony from his kitchen rather than a more conventional setting like an office. The backdrop certainly left the internet baffled.
