Nick Robinson accidentally called Philip Hammond a very rude word

Chancellor Philip Hammond has a bit of an unfortunate nickname: Spreadsheet Phil.

But journalist Nick Robinson got it slightly wrong this morning on BBC Radio 4, when he accidentally said “spreadsh*t Phil”.



And of course people noticed. And made it into a hashtag.

There are hopes it will stick as Hammond's new nickname:

And there were of course references to the greatest slip-up of all time, when Jeremy Hunt was the culture secretary:

Robinson insists everyone has a hearing problem:

Despite a 2015 manifesto pledging not to increase taxes, yesterday Hammond announced in his budget an increase in National Insurance for self-employed workers.

There’s definite potential for the nickname to stick.
