The Times leads with news on Thursday that Stephen Hawking is among 150 leading scientists who are backing the call for Britain to remain in the European Union.

Joining the physicist are three Nobel laureates and the Astronomer Royal - all fellows of the Royal Society - who have written to the paper explaining that if the UK was to leave the EU, restrictions on the freedom of movement could severely affect scientific research.

We now recruit many of our best researchers from continental Europe, including younger ones who have obtained EU grants and have chosen to move with them here.

If the UK leaves the EU and there is a loss of freedom of movement of scientists between the UK and Europe it will be a disaster for UK science and universities.

Thursday's outpouring of support for the Remain camp - from some of the brightest minds in the country - subsequently led to tweets like this:

Well, when you put it like that...

Poor Chris.
