From raising money to open a cafe that hopes to combat inner-city homelessness to just wanting to make a modest potato salad, crowdfunding campaigns range from worthy causes to the downright bizarre.

But we think this one may top the lot. Someone on the internet has launched what they describe as "a social experiment like no other".

The collective power of the internet has the ability to make a complete stranger a millionaire...

I am that stranger.

Yes, that's right, someone you don't know wants you to donate money simply so they can become rich...

The anonymous person promises that if their campaign is successful they will document what they do with the cash over the course of a year on YouTube.

Despite the campaign website, We Made A Millionaire, happily exclaiming "you don't know who I am, where I'm from, or how I'm going to spend your money", it has still managed to raise over $10,000 (£6,400) since launching on 28 July. Donors can give one of three amounts - Bronze ($1.29), Silver ($4.99) or Gold ($9.99).

"Who knows," its promotional video concludes. "It could be crazy enough to work."

i100.co.uk has contacted the anonymous fundraiser to find out more. We'll keep you posted.
