Names commonly mentioned around Christmas time include Santa, Rudolph – and even Frosty (the snowman). Now you can add Ed Miliband to that list.

Yes, you read that right - the former Labour leader has topped a poll compiling the year's funniest Christmas cracker jokes, meaning Miliband will be a name inciting laughter while you tuck into your turkey.

So, what's the joke?

Why does Ed Miliband like advent calendars?

He gets to open the door to number 10.

Courtesy of UKTV channel Gold, the poll saw Miliband stave off fierce competition from Jeremy Clarkson and his Labour successor, Jeremy Corbyn.

The remainder of the top four were comprised of the below:

  1. I told my Granddad to go to Amazon for his Christmas shopping. He phoned me two days later from Brazil.

  2. Why were Jeremy Clarkson’s colleagues excited to try his mulled wine? Because they’d been floored by his punch.

  3. How does Darth Vader like his Christmas turkey? On the dark side.

What a time to be alive.
