We literally can't type the word of the year in this headline

Tuesday 17 November 2015 10:50

It may only be November, but Oxford Dictionaries has got in early to name an emoji its word of the year.

Yes, 😂 - which you might know as 'face with tears of joy' - has the honour of being the word of 2015 despite not even being a word.

Oxford Dictionaries said 😂 was chosen because it was the most used emoji globally this year; featuring in 20 per cent of all emojis used in the UK:

There were other strong contenders from a range of fields... but 😂 was chosen as the ‘word’ that best reflected the ethos, mood, and preoccupations of 2015.

What a time to be alive.
