Diverse perspectives are part of the magic of literature.
Otherwise important tales are ignored and millions grow up reading stories without representation, narratives they can imagine no part in for themselves.
But one woman on Twitter apparently believes that the status quo had shifted too much in favour of ethnic diversity.
This tweet clashes with reality: though diversity has been slowly improving in children's literature, numbers are still far from representative.
The woman's tweet, which has since been deleted, said:
Can I just be controversial for a minute? I don't want diverse books. I want realistic books.
As Twitter readily pointed out, she entirely missed the point.
What do Gandalf, Dumbledore, Doctor Who, Superman, Batman - deep breath - James Bond, Katniss Everdeen, Thor and countless other heroes have in common?
One tweet pointed out there is nothing 'controversial' about this opinion.
