We’ll just go ahead and say it, 2019 has been bleak and the news cycle hasn’t exactly been a barrel of laughs these last few months, so in these trying times it’s good to occasionally remember that there’s still love and joy in the world.
Enter Sylvania, Ohio’s hottest couple John and Phyllis Cook, who unlike many newly weds met at the ripe young age of 100 and and 102-years-old, respectively.
The adorable husband and wife met at the Kingston Residence in Sylvania and quickly became inseparable spending almost all hours of the day together, sharing mealtimes and sitting in the sun.
Speaking to WNWO, Phylis who turns 103-years-old on August 8 said:
“To tell you the truth, we fell in love with each other. I know you think that may be a little bit far-fetched for somebody our age, but we fell in love with each other.”
With John, 100, echoing the sentiment:
“Well, we were just compatible in a whole lot of ways, found ourselves enjoying each other’s company.”
The couple who had both previously lost spouses met at the care facility in West Virginia and had been dating for almost a year before they made the decision to tie the knot after their romance blossomed.
Philis, a devout Christian, felt it was only right that they walked down the aisle and so they applied for a wedding license, a meeting which swiftly became a shotgun wedding last month, much to the delight of the staff at the Kingston Residence.
Celebrating the nuptials on Facebook they care home declared: "It's never too late to find love!"
John Cook, Sr explained:
“It wasn’t the plan, but we got here and they said we could marry you here. I said ‘good, let’s get it over with.”
We don’t know about you but, our hearts may have just exploded. And the secret to their happiness? Knowing when you need your own space.
“What we do, we keep both of our apartments. He’s upstairs and I’m down.”
And their favourite thing to do together? We’ll leave that one to John:
“I probably shouldn’t talk about that.”
