But the world is a big place – and the Sussexes’ explosive Oprah interview last week appears to have left at least one person concerned about their living situation.
So concerned, that they apparently sought to crowdfund $10m for the royal couple.
Amid Markle’s allegations of racism against an unnamed royal and her revelations of feeling suicidal prior to their decision to “step back” as senior royals, her husband also claimed: “My family literally cut me off financially.
“I’ve got what my mum left me, and without that, we would not have been able to do this. I think she saw it coming.”
According to an estimate byThe Times, Prince Harry’s overall inheritance totalled some £23m. And the couple also told Oprah of their lucrative new deals with Netflix and Spotify – which they referred to as “streamers” – which are reported to be worth £71m and £18m respectively.
But despite this, apparently one California resident felt the royal couple might be in need of some community support – setting up a now-deleted GoFundMe page with a $10m target, aimed at paying off the couple’s mortgage.
“After their interview, I was moved with compassion to help get their home paid off. As they are now financially independent, this will help and be a loving gift,” wrote the organiser, a Ventura resident named Anastasia Hanson.
In comments visible on the internet archive, WayBack Machine, Ms Hanson added: “Were two million supporters to donate just $5 each, the Goal is met and the loan can be paid off.”
The fundraiser secured donations totalling $110 before it was deleted.
Hanson, who reportedly repeatedly called the fundraiser “legitimate”, was quoted as saying byThe Sun: “I like to help people and help them in any way I can.
“That gives me happiness. If you needed a home, I’d do the same for you. It’s a good deed.”
According toVariety, the Sussexes’ Santa Barbara home cost $14.65m, and “the buyers secured a $9.5 million mortgage to acquire the 7.4-acre compound, which is securely tucked away on a private, gated street”.
While people were sent cooing over the recent scenes displaying the family’s chicken coop named “Archie’s Chick Inn”, Prince Harry told Oprah: “From my perspective, all I needed was enough money to be able to pay for security to keep my family safe.”
