As author and journalist Chas Newkey-Burden has found, that applies to famous people too. Here are 10 habits adapted from Newkey-Burden's new book Get Lucky: Rituals, Habits and Superstitions of the Rich and Famous.

1. Marilyn Monroe

Shaved the heel of one shoe in each pair to give her that famous walk.

2. Steve Jobs

Had a collection of 100 of the same sweater designed by Issey Miyake. He wore one every day

3. Winston Churchill

Liked to conduct meetings naked.

4. Barack Obama

Always plays basketball on election day.

5. Leonardo da Vinci

Would take a 20-minute nap every four hours rather than sleep a full night.

6. Tiger Woods

Always tries to wear a red shirt during competitions.

7. Benjamin Franklin

Asked himself every evening "What good have I done today?".

8. Charles Dickens

Believed it was important to sleep north and as such used to carry a compass wherever he went.

9. Maya Angelou

Used to hire a hotel room to write in which she kept as sparse as possible.

10. Heidi Klum

Carries a bag containing her baby teeth.
