Tesla’s Elon Musk has said that the company’s electric cars can now be purchased via bitcoin, first in the US and then later throughout the world.

The billionaire tweeted late on Tuesday: “You can now by a Tesla with Bitcoin.” He also mentioned that the cryptocurrency will not be converted to traditional money.

The move comes after the company obtained $1.5 billion worth of bitcoin and said it was planning to accept it as payment, a move that sent the number one bitcoin purchasing power up.

support page on Tesla’s website is already up, explaining how customers can pay for a Tesla using the digital currency. The company’s electric vehicles typically cost between $37,990 and $124,000 before tax.

Musk often tweets about his dislike of cash and preference towards the new style of currency. Last month, he said that cash “has negative real interest, only a fool wouldn’t look elsewhere.”

Tesla’s investment caused other companies, such as Twitter and Uber, to voice their opinions on bitcoin.

Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, said the company had discussed it but “quickly dismissed” investing in it, but has considered letting customers pay with it. Twitter said they were undecided.

Tesla recently added “Techonking of Tesla” to Musk’s list of titles, which is now his Twitter bio.

Twitter users were quick to give their reaction to the move.
