Our inevitable future involving robots has its ups and downs.
On the one hand, we’ll be living with the lingering fear they’ll become sentient and take over. On the other hand, it's nice to have a shiny assistant to help pick up dirty socks and do the dishes.
Apparently a lot of people welcome the rise of the robots for another completely different reason though. Two thirds of British men would be up for having sex with a robot, according to a survey by Now TV. The same proportion of women however, were very much against the idea.
And this doesn't just include people who aren’t in a relationship. The survey also revealed that two in five people wouldn’t consider sleeping with a robot cheating.
Along the same lines, but much darker, one in five people don’t see anything wrong with harming an artificially intelligent robot, and 48 per cent say they’d feel less guilty about acting out their ‘darkest desires’ with a robot.
Professor Noel Sharkey, a computer science expert from the University of Sheffield, has previously commented on people’s sexual intentions. According to Reuters, he said at a news briefing:
The best robots could do is 'fake it'. Robots cannot feel love.
