Elon Musk, the billionaire backer, wants to have flights into the Earth’s orbit. They would be the first all civilian flight, which was charted by another billionaire Jared Isaacman, who made his money in the credit card industry. No professional astronauts will be included in the journey, which will last days.
According to Isaacman, three seats are being saved for “crew members, who will be selected to represent the mission pillars of leadership, hope, generosity and prosperity.”
It is not the first Starship to burst into flames. Last month, the previous prototype SN9 soared into the sky before crashing down and becoming a ball of fire.
The explosion was captured on film as it crashed landed during tests in the US.
On Wednesday, SpaceX was trying to test the flight capacity of the ship, reaching heights of 10 kilometres. It was not all a complete failure as it managed to reach a base in Boca Chica. Texas, something an intention of those behind the project.
However, all went wrong eight minutes after landing as it sat on the landing pad, it blew up. No one was on board therefore no human was hurt. The vessel flies on autopilot.
Despite this disaster, all hope is not lost as lots were learned during the test. Previous explosions, such as what happened last December to the SN8 - have led to improvements being incorporated into the design and procedure.
