Royal baby news: Official Instagram account pays tribute to mums on Mother's Day

Prince Harry and Meghan speak for first time since birth of baby Archie

In the early hours of Monday 6 May, the Duchess of Sussex gave birth to a baby boy, with Prince Harry by her side.

A statement was released on the royal couple’s official Instagram account, revealing that the baby was born before 6am and weighs 7lbs. 3oz.

The first pictures of the couple with their newborn were revealed on Wednesday. The newborn was seen swaddled in a white blanket wearing a white hat.

The couple later announced on Instagram that they had named their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

The picture shared today of Archie Harrison's feet was taken at Frogmore Cottage, according to royal correspondent Rebecca English. 

In the photo, the newborn is held by the Duchess of Sussex in front of forget-me-nots, a favourite of Princess Diana's.

American fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger has said he would love to dress Meghan Markle.

Speaking at the Race to Erase MS Gala in Los Angeles on Friday, the 68-year-old was asked whether he'd like to see the Duchess in his designs. 

"It would be an honour, are you kidding? I would love that, I only hope she asks someday," he said, before adding: "She's pretty awesome, amazing."

On Wednesday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they named their first child Archie Harrison. 

Archibald is derived from the Germanic elements ercan, meaning "genuine", and bald, meaning "bold".

Duke and Duchess of Sussex mark Mental Health Awareness Week in Instagram tribute

Mental Health Awareness Week begins today, and Meghan and Harry have already publicly supported the initiative with an Instagram post paying tribute to the "countless organisations" and individuals who are doing "amazing work for mental health".

Several activists and campaign groups have been tagged in the royals' post, including Anxiety UK, Crisis Text Line and Born This Way Foundation, which was launched by Lady Gaga.

Individuals tagged include author Matt Haig, writer and journalist Bryony Gordon and actor Jameela Jamil, founder of body positivity account, I Weigh.

The Duke of Cambridge has recorded a radio message to mark the start of Mental Health Awareness Week alongside and a number of celebrities.

The minute-long message featuring Prince William, Katy Perry, Stephen Fry, Jameela Jamil and Alesha Dixon will be broadcast at 10.59am simultaneously across hundreds of UK radio stations on Monday.

The five have come together to talk about the value of listening and the positive role it can play in our mental health.

Prince Harry stressed importance of 'mental fitness' week before Archie's birth

Prince Harry touted the benefits of "mental fitness" during the London Marathon.

Following the race, the team behind The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's Instagram account, @SussexRoyal, posted a series of photographs from the day, one of which shows Harry posing with winners Eliud Kipchoge and Brigid Kosgei, alongside an inspiring note about how sport can facilitate good mental health.

“The Duke has been Patron of the [London Marathon Charitable] Trust since 2012 because he believes that mental fitness is absolutely crucial to our wellbeing,” the caption begins.

“These runners not only set a goal for themselves personally and emotionally, but the majority of runners choose to raise money for charity. It’s the perfect fusion of doing something good for yourself while doing good for others.”
