Donald Trump insulted many Mexicans when, during his presidential announcement, he implied that Mexican immigrants were rapists and criminals.

He went on to say that if he were elected president, he would build a wall on the US-Mexico border to keep out immigrants and said he would make Mexico pay for it.

No surprise that Mexicans were offended by those words, but it may have come as a surprise to The Donald that many of his corporate partners have ended their relationships with him after the comments.

Here is a rundown of the how Donald may have Trumped himself just as his presidential campaign got going.

Univision - not surprisingly - was one of the first companies to part with Mr Trump, saying the network would not air the Miss Universe pageant, which the mogul owns.

Then NBC followed suit, saying it would not air either the Miss Universe or the Miss America pageants.

Now, department store Macy's has said it has terminated its relationship with Mr Trump and will phase out his line of menswear.

The Orlando Sentinel even had some fun and wrote an amusing - and satirical - story about Mr Trump being banned from Trump golf courses.

The latest

After the whirlwind of controversy surrounding his comments, a meeker man than Mr Trump would have stepped back from his comments.

Instead, Mr Trump has defended them. In an interview with CNN's Don Lemon, the presidential candidate stuck by his "rapist" comments.

"If you go to Fusion, you will see a story: About 80% of the women coming in, you know who owns Fusion? Univision! Go to Fusion and pick up the stories on rape. It's unbelievable when you look at what's going on. So all I'm doing is telling the truth," Mr Trump said.

Mr Lemon replied that the stories are about women being raped, not about criminals coming across the border.

"Well, somebody's doing the raping, Don! I mean somebody's doing it! Who's doing the raping? Who's doing the raping?" Mr Trump asked.
