Hilary Clinton 'is not running for president' says John Podesta

Hillary Clinton has said she will not run for the US presidency in 2020.

The former senator and US secretary of state ruled out another run for the White House in an interview with New York TV station News12.

“I’m not running but I’m going to keep on working and speaking and standing up for what I believe,” said Ms Clinton, who lost the 2016 presidential election to Donald Trump.

“What’s at stake in our country, the kind of things that are happening right now are deeply troubling to me.”

The 71-year-old added that she is “not going anywhere”, despite ruling herself out of the presidential race.

She said she had spoken to several of the candidates seeking the Democratic presidential nomination and told them “don’t take anything for granted, even though we have a long list of real problems and broken promises” from Donald Trump’s administration.

Prominent Democrats including Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris and Bernie Sanders are eyeing a White House run, in what is likely to be a crowded field.
