Rejoice! Jon Stewart is coming back to our screens

Just a few months after hanging up his notepad, Jon Stewart will be returning to screens after signing a four-year contract with HBO.

The former host of The Daily Show will produce short politics and current affairs clips that will be broadcast on the network's streaming services HBO Now and HBO Go.

The network said in a statement that the deal will see the company "developing new technology that will allow him to produce timely short-form digital content, which will be refreshed on HBO Now multiple times throughout the day."

Signing Stewart is something of a coup for HBO in the year before the presidential election, with his sharp satirical takes on The Daily Show making him one of the most recognisable faces in American politics over the past 16 years.

"Appearing on television 22 minutes a night clearly broke me. I'm pretty sure I can produce a few minutes of content every now and again," Stewart said in the HBO statement.
