Bernice King, Martin Luther King's daughter, has called for a boycott on the fast food chain Waffle House after a young black man was choke-slammed outside on of its stores.
22-year-old Anthony Wall was dressed in a tuxedo because he had just accompanied his younger sister to her prom, when he stopped off at the Waffle House outlet in Warsaw, North Carolina.
Police were called after Wall allegedly got into an argument with one of the branch's employees.
Speaking to CBS News, he explained how:
I was pretty much trying to scream for air and to breathe, because he was holding my throat, and that's when I got aggressive with him because you are choking me.
In light of the incident, Bernice King has has called for a boycott of the store until Waffle House implements some anti-racism training for its staff:
It comes just days after a black woman was wrestled to the ground by three white officers in another Waffle House outlet in Alabama after she questioned staff for charging her 50 cents extra for some plastic utensils.
In a disturbing video, Chikesia Clemons can be seen asking officers, "What are you doing?", only to be told by one of the officers "I'm about to break your arm, that's what I'm about to do."
If Waffle House heeds King's call for anti-racism training for its staff, it will follow in Starbucks' footsteps. The company will close 8,000 of its stores on May 29 in order to train staff on unconscious racial bias after two black men were arrested in one of its outlets in Philadelphia for sitting in the store 'without ordering anything.'
