This Corrie superfan immortalised Deirdre Barlow by getting a tattoo of her on his leg

Deirdre Barlow officially left Coronation Street this week when the news emerged the character had died away from Weatherfield following the death in January of actor Anne Kirkbride.

Now Deirdre has been immortalised in tattoo form on the leg of Corrie fan Martyn Hett, who has been inked with a picture of the character.

Deirde stares mournfully out from behind prison bars in the tatt on Hett's left leg in a nod to one of her most famous storylines, in which the character is wrongfully imprisoned for fraud.

"I've been a Coronation Street superfan my entire life, but mainly I've been a Deirdre Barlow superfan," 27-year-old Hett told the BBC.

She's always been my favourite character. I was mesmerised by her as a small child and I loved her right up until the very end.

Hett explained that has wanted a tattoo of the character for a long time but decided to "get a move on" with it as a tribute to Kirkbride following her death.

The Coronation Street actres died at the age of 60 in January this year after a short battle with cancer. She first made an appearance on the show in 1972 and had been a regular character and fan favourite ever since.
