Stephen Fry has made a myth-busting video about Brexit and it's perfect

The Brexit debate has been very toxic.

Despite hopes that the referendum would settle the issue, the has debate raged on (and on) right up until Britain's departure on 31 January. There’s been so much shrieking and deliberate truth-bending that sometimes it’s hard to tell what's true and what's not.

Thankfully Stephen Fry, the ever-reasonable bastion of knowledge, has come to lend a hand. Fry has made an incredible 11-minute video that separates facts from fear.

The video starts by comparing images from the UK press and Vote Leave campaign to Nazi propaganda, displaying the similar tactics that both groups have used.

Next it busts the myth that migrants do not contribute to the British economy, with an infographic that shows the positive financial contribution made by migrants to the UK each year.

After this Fry points out that areas that voted leave have such low levels of migration, whereas in areas with high immigration the opposite is true. He then concluded that when people meet immigrants, they lose the fear around them. He also referenced studies which show immigration does not deflate wages and that government policies are failing to eradicate inequality.

Fry next took apart various lies touted by Boris Johnson throughout the referendum campaign, such as that the EU controls the shape of the UK’s bananas.

Finally, he took apart the myth that Brexit will help the economy. While Brexiteers like Jacob Rees-Mogg tout the trade benefits of countries like China, it turns out the UK trades more with Ireland than China.
