A thief who broke into a house was caught watching porn and masturbating during burglary

If you've ever been unfortunate enough to be the victim of a burglary, the chances are the culprits didn't stick around for long.

The average burglary lasts around 8 to 12 minutes, according to API Alarm Inc. In short, they are in and out in a flash.

That wasn't the case for one burglar in Los Angeles recently who decided to take a more leisurely approach to his crime.

A man identified as 28-year-old Alan Estrada broke into the hair extension business of Lisa and Steve Mirizzi late on Tuesday and made the most of his new surroundings.

CCTV footage shows Estrada having a good look at the property, smoking drugs, stealing money and credit cards, charging his phone and using a computer.

To make matters even stranger, he was reportedly seen watching pornography on a disc he had brought with him and masturbating.

The couple, who live in an apartment above their business, found the intruder after Lisa came down to make a cup of tea.

As soon as she saw him, she screamed, which prompted her son and husband to rush downstairs and apprehend Estrada.

Lisa told KTLA:

Last night, I came downstairs to make some tea and I saw him at the computer sitting, watching porn.

It almost felt like a dream because it’s like, 'Is this really happening?'

Estrada was wrestled to the ground but briefly escaped. Police arrived on the scene shortly afterwards and were able to arrest him on suspicion of residential burglary.

He was booked into the Van Nuys jail at 1:36am without bail. LA Daily News report that Estrada is currently homeless with a string of narcotic and grand theft auto offences to his name.

The stolen money and cards were eventually returned to the family who admitted that they were able to laugh about it on reflection.

Speaking after the event LAPA Detective Michael O'Connor said that the incident would have been confusing and traumatic for the family.

She noticed he was watching pornography on the computer

And that got her upset because she didn’t know what she was dealing with … was he a sexual predator, or was he a burglar?

She screamed to her husband and son upstairs in the residential portion. They came down to help and tackled the guy inside the business.

And not just the mother who confronted the screwball watching porn but the father and son who had to subdue him and wait for the police.

It was very traumatic.
